Allow the post author to decide the default sorting. I think this would be really nice because it would allow the author to design the appropriate dialgue.
For example, top sorting is good for finding the best answers. New is better to get a understanding of the general reception of the post.
It could also make sense to create new sorting methods if this was implemented. Perhaps a twitter like sorting where you can only see the first post in a thread. Then you can click into that thread.
Perhaps limit how users can interact for the post? Removing voting on comments or disable threads.

If you are using mastodon and want to add !green@lemmy.ml, you enter @green@lemmy.ml into the searchbar. Then you follow as if it was any other mastodon user. Probably similar on other federated platforms.

The potential is that it can connect the fediverse. Connect content so that you don’t have to choose instance based on what software you like. Instead choosing instance based on what communities you belong to.
Politicians/ activists/ organizations, can much more easily interact publicly and connect all activity to just a single account.
Mastodon can enable a feature where you have to write the reason you want to join. That could solve a lot of these problems.
If this continues, I will leave the site.
