There are plenty open open source multiplayer games that allow you to host your own server and use your own clients. Check /c/opensourcegames
I guess the writing was on the wall with the stock market price being low recently due to all the scandals.
Crypt of the NecroDancer
I wasted so many hours of my life on this and the soundtrack is to this day on my favorite playlist ;)
To bad the sequel was Nintendo Switch exclusive and some odd Zelda cross-over. Maybe I’ll play it on an emulator in the future :-/
A lot of these are on sale on HB right now: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/promo/indie-hits-sale/
I am the total opposite. I find horror games totally boring as the jump scares and overdone tropes are so predictable. Usually horror games are among the most lazy designed games as well.
At the very least they should include some philosophical questions and psychological horror like SOMA for example does.

I only played it shortly, but it seems to have some sort of manipulative matchmaking that makes it look easier in the beginning to hook you to the game.

Lets be honest here… nearly all gaming “journalism” is thinly veiled advertisement. This is no worse then other.
Client Oauth2/OIDC login and account creation (“federated auth”) would be nice for people self-hosting Lemmy and trying to integrate with other services.
Server side OIDC (like Mastodon has) or app auth tokens would be nice in for using 3rd party clients.

They could have kept with the “good old games” idea (DRM free ofc), but that is a limited niche market. Sooner or later these kind of negative outcomes are inevitable if you prioritize growth.

Edit: as a moderator myself I also do not like to be put into the spot of having to decide in cases that are not so clear cut, as it takes considerable mental effort and you just end up losing either way.
That would be probably result in an instance ban as it would federate a lot of old posts at once.
