I guess the writing was on the wall with the stock market price being low recently due to all the scandals.

just like we are trying to decentralise internet with Fediverse, so should we encourage gamedev community to keep gaming away from centralised platforms. Supporting the development of Godot Engine is probably one of the best ways to fight against all the bad stuff that is going in on gaming industry.

It will be interesting to see what happens. MS’s gaming division certainty has the capacity and ability to manage Blizzard correctly. One can only hope.

They’re gonna use this to prop up Game Pass and try to establish a monopoly in which nobody can even own games anymore

Not a man, and, honestly I kinda doubt that selling a copy of a game and saying it’s akshually “just a license” can even fly in places like the EU, where EULAs aren’t legally binding.

Sorry about that, didn’t mean to offend, I am still working on using non-gendered phrases. As for the EU, I’m not going to pretend to know how those laws work, but it’s pretty common practice that there are different consumer protection laws for EU residents and most everywhere else. As society and gaming shifts to digital downloads, it’s going to get more and more difficult to actually own your games anymore though. In the old days, if you violated ToS or something, you at least still had the physical copy of your game.

Yeah, that’s why I try to buy physical or at least DRM-free copies of games whenever I can

If not, well, I can buy it regardless to support the devs and if I lose access to it there are… other means

But with stuff like Game Pass and game streaming that’s gonna become harder and harder

Yeah I feel that. I’ve recently started collecting physical copies of older consoles and games for nostalgia reasons and its incredible how nice it is to just boot up and play games without having to worry about internet, logging into or creating a new account just to play games (looking at you Ubisoft), etc.

This reminds me, a bunch of people claim that the only reason anyone would ever prefer physical copies is for nostalgia, but like, I’m from Eastern Europe and while I did have physical copies of a sort growing up, they were nothing like what actual copies are like.

They were like 5 games crammed into a CD usually by ripping stuff like cutscenes and music, with the names of the games written in pen on a sheet of paper or in marker on the CD, that you bought from random market stalls lmao
